Real Men Wear Pink

This is the first year for the “Real Men Wear Pink” campaign here on the Mississippi Gulf Coast.
The American Cancer Society has teamed up with 20 prominent local men to wear pink. This is an effort to increase awareness and raise money to aid in the battle against breast cancer.
News 25’s Hank Davis brings us the story.
A group of men from across the Gulf Coast met at Island View Casino in unusual attire for a noble cause. This is the first year “Real Men Wear Pink” is taking place on the Coast. Twenty prominent community members are teaming up to take down breast cancer. Health professional Robbie D’Angelo said, “It’s a really positive thing to be doing and to have this group of guys doing it. I mean, we’ve already had so much fun and it hasn’t even started yet. I can only imagine where this gonna go and for the great purpose that we’re serving to do it.”
For 30 days, these men will wear pink, organize awareness events and each has pledged to raise at least $2,500 for the American Cancer Society. Financial consultant Cree Cantrell said, “We each have wide networks of business associates and I really feel good about our chances of raising some serious money. I’m excited about it.”
While some might be taken off guard seeing a large group of men dressed in pink, these guys are proudly suiting up to take part in the battle against breast cancer.
By the end of the month, these guys hope to bring the entire Coast together to take a stand against breast cancer. Liz Gaulke with the American Cancer Society said, “They’re doing all kinds of fun stuff. They’re doing parties, golf tournaments, competitions at work. Just trying to create some awareness and to do what they can do, all together they can collect about $50,000. That’s a huge boost.”
