Reading Gate Educational Meeting
Today, the Mississippi Department of Education’s regional literacy meetings make their stop on the Coast.
In an effort to assist school districts with the implementation of the third grade reading gate, the Mississippi Department of Education is conducting these meetings for parents of kindergarten through third grade students.
Parents will receive an overview of the legislation and assessment, as well as strategies that can be used at home to help improve reading outcomes for children.
Under the Literacy Based Promotion Act, students who cannot read on grade level by the end of third grade will be held back.
That meeting is set to begin at 6 at the Harrison County School District Central Office on Highway 49.
