Rare white tiger born in Nicaraguan zoo

Veterinarians are caring for the first white tiger born in captivity in Nicaragua.

Nieve, who is just 9 days old, was rejected by its mother at the national zoo of Nicaragua after she was unable to produce milk.

To keep it nourished, vets feed Nieve, which means snow in Spanish, every three hours.

The cub weighed less than 2 pounds at birth but could grow to weigh over 400 pounds.

Nieve’s parents are Bengal tigers with yellow fur and black stripes.

Vets say Nieve inherited the white fur from its maternal grandfather, which is uncommon.

The white fur is the result of genetic crosses that cause a loss of yellow and orange color.
