Racquets for Ronald tennis tournament

Despite the bad weather, the ninth annual Racquets for Ronald tennis tournament went on as planned.

Many people showed up from around the Gulf Coast to play at the USTA sanctioned tournament with Ronald McDonald Foundation prizes given to the winners.

All the proceeds from the tournament go straight to the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile where nearly 50 percent of their residents are from the Mississippi Gulf Coast.

Mary McAleer with Ronald McDonald House Development tells News 25 that she’s happy to see so many people want to help out a great cause. “It just warms your heart like you can’t even imagine. We run into people and they’ll see my name tag or my shirt on that says ‘Ronald McDonald House’ and they’re like ‘oh my gosh, do you work at the Ronald McDonald House? We stayed there. My sister stayed there and we couldn’t have done it without ya’ll.”

Since 2011, the tournament has raised over $250,000 to help support the Ronald McDonald House of Mobile.
