Quality Seafood sales manager to serve prison time for role in mislabeling seafood

Todd Rosetti will spend 8 months in federal prison for his role in mislabeling seafood at Quality Seafood and Poultry.

The sales manager for the seafood distribution company was the only one sentenced to jail time for his role in the scandal that also included Mary Mahoney’s Old French House restaurant.

In addition to the prison time, Judge Sul Ozerden sentenced Rosetti to serve 6 months of house arrest, a year of probation and a $1,000 fine for a misdemeanor charge of mislabeling seafood, which was part of a plea agreement made earlier in the year. He also must perform 100 hours of community service.

According to media partner Sun Herald, Ozerden called Rosetti “… the ultimate authority in this scheme. He was the driving force.”

Quality’s business manager, James Gunkel, was sentenced to two years probation, a year of house arrest and $1,000 fine for his misdemeanor plea of mislabeling seafood. He also must perform 50 hours of community service.

Owner Clell Rosetti represented Quality Seafood and Poultry for the sentencing. The business was placed on five years probation and fined $500,000 in addition to forfeiting $1 million to the U.S. Marshal Service and paying a $400 special assessment.

The Sun Herald reported that Clell Rosetti told the judge he and his wife were taking a more active role in the business.

“My wife and I will see that this will never, ever happen again,” he told the judge. “We’re doing everything we can to make sure this doesn’t happen again.”
