Public boat launch in Pass Christian closed off for safety concerns

Pass Christian Harbor officials are working to resolve a multilayer issue on one of its boat launches.

The public boat launch on South Market Street between the harbor office and the yacht club has been closed until further notice because it is unsafe.

Portions of the pier collapsed and the sub structure of the remaining pier is unstable.

Harbor officials were able to get tidelands funding to pay for the project that will cost $74,000. It will take two weeks to fix.

This was the original boat launch for the harbor and before Katrina it was the main area for seafood sellers and Pass Christian Yacht Club events. Pass Christian Harbor Master Russell Holliman said, “A lot of people don’t know that we have this boat launch that is open to the public and it is open. If people want to avoid the traffic and other boat ramps, they are more than welcome to use this boat ramp once it’s repaired. They just have to park further out in the parking lot with their trailers.”

The harbor still has two boat launches open near the entrance by Shaggy’s and the other is on the east side of the harbor.
