Protecting senior citizens against the heat
The Lyman Senior Center is advising senior citizens make sure they are protected in heat.
The center nurses are making sure their patients drink tons of water before and after being outside – teaching them how to stay cool while performing activities outside.
According to the CDC, those at greatest risk to heat-related illnesses are infants and children up to four years of age and people 65 years of age and older.
One woman in the center who suffered from the symptoms of dehydration warns others to be careful and the dangers it causes to senior citizens.
“Try to be careful with this Sun because you know you won’t realize you’ll have one of these spells or one of these heat things,” Carlean May said. “You will pass out and not know it because I almost did it here.”
Be sure to tell your loved ones the importance of staying hydrated as summer temperatures ramp up.
