Prosecutors not Seeking Death Penalty

Prosecutors will not seek the death penalty against two men charged with killing another man in Gulfport in 2014.
The decision means 20-year-old Rashad Johnson and 22-year-old Jalen Williams will face a maximum penalty of life without parole if convicted of capital murder in the slaying of Lamont Hayes of Gulfport.
The trial of those two men was slated to start yesterday, but it has been rescheduled for March 20th.
They are accused of waking up and assaulting Hayes before fatally shooting him in the groin.
Police say the two then fled the scene before trying to steal the victim’s vehicle.
