Proposed room tax removed from Biloxi Council agenda

A proposed 2 percent hotel tax that Biloxi Mayor FoFo Gilich wanted to add to the existing 12 percent tax in the city was removed from Tuesday’s city council agenda.

The additional revenue from the 2 percent would have been used for tourism, special events, and park improvements.

The resolution called for the council to agree to ask the legislature for a local and private bill to add the 2 percent tax to hotel rooms and short-term rentals.

If passed, city residents would then vote on whether to levy the additional tax.
