Proposal to make Downtown Wiggins a social district

As Wiggins continues to grow, local government leaders have brought the idea of making downtown a designated social district.

If Downtown Wiggins is designated as a social district, it would allow restaurants to sell alcohol and customers to bring their beverages outside to the entertainment area.

The entertainment district would be built from 1st Street to 2nd Street.

The idea of a social district could bring in business and customers to the area and create foot traffic for not only already established businesses downtown, but also the rest of Wiggins. Wiggins Mayor Darrell Berry said, “We are sitting between two major cities and, of course, the Coast. We have always through that movement would come closer to Wiggins and looks like that is what we are doing. We are in a prime location right off of Highway 49 and traffic is flowing through daily. I think we have got a lot to offer.”

A poll has been posted on the Stone County Economic Development Partnership Instagram story and page for the public to vote on and voice how they envision the entertainment district.
