Progress continues on Jim Simpson Memorial Pier in Long Beach

LONG BEACH, Miss. (WXXV)- Reconstruction work on a Long Beach pier destroyed by Hurricane Zeta is nearly complete.

The city shared an update on the progress of the Jim Simpson Memorial Pier Monday, stating that new, resilient decking has been laid down.

Bids for the project went out nearly a year ago, after Harrison County and FEMA came to an agreement on the cost and design of the project.

There’s still no specific reopening date for the pier, but we’ll let you know when the city announces one.
