Progress continues for the Mississippi Aquarium

September 27th, 2019: the big announcement by the Mississippi Aquarium was made at the Splash Bash in Gulfport.

It was announced April 30th, 2020 was the day for the much anticipated opening. Today is April 30th and the aquarium is no where near being open.

As of right now, officials with the aquarium do not have a set opening date. The construction crews at the aquarium were deemed essential during the coronavirus lockdown so they have been hard at work getting everything ready for when it is time for them to open to the public.

The animal care team has also been working during the lockdown to make sure all of the aquarium animals are safe and healthy.

If you drive past the aquarium site, you have seen the great progress and officials say they have come a long way.Corey Ball with the Mississippi Aquarium said, “It’s been pretty amazing seeing this built from the ground up. Right now, we are kind of in the details stage of things. So, we are really seeing our campus come to life through plant life and the details that go into the habitats is amazing. We have hand carved rock work for our otter habitat. We have a lot of native plants around and we also have pages on our website, ‘follow our progress page.’ We update that page with pictures. We update that page daily to make sure we have pictures and everything for the community to be involved and really see the progress and see the aquarium come to life.”

If you would like to get your tickets now you can go online to msaquarium.org.
