Prisoner Escape
The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department is conducting an internal investigation of inmate transport procedures after a prisoner escaped police custody Friday.
Inmate Eddie Lavell was in circuit court for a probation violation stemming from a domestic violence charge.
After the hearing, Lavell concealed himself under a stairwell in the court building, until everyone left, and then he left. Reports of a suspicious man a jail uniform and handcuffs led Pascagoula Police to find him several hours later on Market Street. He is charged with escape, and his probation is revoked.
