President Trump nominates former Gulfport mayor to serve on commission

President Donald Trump has picked former Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes to serve on a federal commission.

Hewes has been nominated to serve on the Consumer Product Safety Commission for a term that would end in October 2031.

The position does require Senate approval. According to the Senate’s website, Hewes’ nomination was received by the upper chamber on October 2.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission is an independent federal agency that has a primary mission of developing safety standards for consumer products and evaluating consumer complaints.
