Prescription Take Back Day across the Coast
Tomorrow the Drug Enforcement Administration is encouraging everyone to participate in their Prescription Drug Take Back program.
Multiple locations in South Mississippi will participate in the DEA’s National Prescription Drug Take Back Day. Each site will be open from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m. The services are free and no questions will be asked. Liquids or needles will not be accepted. Harrison County Sheriff Troy Peterson said, “One of the biggest concerns we have is someone getting it that shouldn’t have it or somebody stealing it after a loved one dies or a child getting ahold of it, somebody that’s abusing medication gets ahold of it. Prescription medication is probably the number one cause of addiction in the United States today. We have a huge opioid problem in Mississippi and all over the United States and this is one way we try to give back to the community and try to say bring it to us and we’ll destroy it.”
Coast residents have four locations to take their prescription drugs: the Bay St. Louis, Long Beach and Pass Christian police departments as well as the Lyman Community Center.
