Preparing as hurricane season picks up

The disturbance in the Gulf has a medium chance of escalating to a tropical development.

As hurricane season starts to pick up, we wanted to remind you of preparations. According to a study by YouGov, nearly 75 percent of people make no preparations for a hurricane or wait until the last minute to prepare.

Delaying preparations could be costly, especially if you wait until the severe weather is already here.

You should start your preparations now, have a water supply, a radio, and a couple days’ worth of canned food.

Most importantly, have an emergency plan and bag ready for each family member and pets for when you need to use it.

Chief Meteorologist Rob Knight tells us why he likes to prepare early. “Preparing now saves you a lot of panic, later, down the road. We’ve had stories here at News 25… we show grocery stores, they’re jam-packed. Home-depot, Lowes, places like that, they’re jam-packed. If you prepare now, you save yourself that headache in the future, and I like to be prepared now rather than the mad dash toward the end.”
