As the adverse weather approaches, residents in Harrison County are preparing for flood waters.
At one of the Harrison County work stations on Lorraine Road, residents were shoveling free sand into bags and taking them home in preparation for flood waters.
One residents tells News 25 he’s taking advantage of the free help the city is offering and says other should as well, especially if they live in an area that floods frequently. Gulfport resident Glen Lewis said, “The reason why I’m getting the sand, I’m going to put it by my back patio door, in case when the rain comes off the road on Switzer Road, the water won’t come in my back patio door. There’s a lot of people going to come here tonight and get some sand. There’s a lot of people going to come here and get it and they should thank the Lord that the sheriff put this sand here for us to get.”
There is still plenty of sand at the Lorraine Road location in Gulfport if you need to grab some before the heavy rain starts.
