Prepare for lane closures on Wilkes Drawbridge in Gulfport for six months

We have a traffic alert for drivers in Harrison County that could impact your route for the next six months.

Starting Wednesday night, Mississippi Department of Transportation will close the northbound side of the state route 605 drawbridge, also known as the Wilkes Drawbridge.

Traffic will reduce from four lanes to two. The traffic shift will stretch from Reichold to Hillcrest Road.

This work is part of an ongoing $22 million bridge rehabilitation project for upgrades. MDOT District 6 Engineer Kelly Castleberry said, “Consisting of a lot of electrical work in the house, redoing some control panels and then also replacing the hydraulic motors that raise and lower that bridge. Right now, traffic will get moved to one side of the bridge and so motorists will be able to go on that side of the bridge, both north and south, but it will only be one lane and our crews and contractor will be working on the other side.”

During construction, the speed limit through the work zone will be 25 MPH.
