PRCC Wildcats baseball riding a 21-game winning streak ahead of doubleheader on Tuesday

Sports programs get hot and go on winning streaks all the time – but some stick out above the rest.

Right now, Pearl River Community College is on a 21-game winning streak and they show no signs of slowing down anytime soon.

The No. 4 ranked Pearl River Community College Wildcats baseball team sits at 34-5 on the season and are winners of their last 21 games in a row.

The Wildcats last loss came back on February 24th to the then No. 1 ranked Heartland Community College Hawks, 7-3. Since that loss, PRCC has won 21 straight by an average margin of just over eight runs per game.

Before practice on Tuesday Sports 25 had the chance to speak to head coach Michael Avalon and national homerun leader Hollis Porter, who also happens to be an East Central high school alum, on what goes in to putting together a streak like the one they are on together and how they can look to continue it.

“I think the big thing is consistency,” said head coach Avalon. “I think it’s more of how you approach each day, each game, and staying with that simple approach of we are just going to worry about today. That’s so easy to say but it’s very very tough to do and I think, you know, that is why there aren’t a whole lot of 20 plus game winning streaks in the game of baseball.”

“We play ball our way,” said Porter. “Coach Avi, that’s what he says, do our thing and everything else will take care of itself. That’s just what we have been doing. Playing out ball and letting everything else take care of itself. We just want to stay on top, that’s what Pearl River baseball is, they have been at the top for so long and that is just where we want to stay.”
