Coaching milestones are always impressive when they happen and one coach in the area s trying to chase some history while passing how own career milestone.
Tuesday’s 13-1 victory over MGCCC extended the Wildcats winning streak to a record-tying 27 games. The Wildcats will look to break the record for most consecutive wins this weekend against Coahoma Community College.
Not only did they pick up a big win on the road – it was also head coach Michael Avalon’s 400th career victory.
Before their potential record breaking game this weekend I had the chance to speak with coach Avalon after reaching his latest milestone.
He explained what the Pearl River Community means to him and how there is not the kind of pressure you might expect while on their winning streak.
“It’s just very humbling, you know, thankful for it, ” said Avalon. “My family loves this place, this is a special place to live, and that is one of the things you hear about Pearl River here on campus is that it’s just such a special place and it’s family. There is not a whole lot of pressure. We have to show up and our pressure is to just play the way that we play. They are talented, they are really good players, they work extremely hard, so it is basically just showing up every day. Making sure we have a lot of energy and a lot of passion.”
