Powerball and Mega Millions tickets available in January
It’s now a safe bet for the addition of a lottery in our state as the Mississippi Lottery Corporation announced today Powerball and Mega Millions tickets will be available come January 30th next year.
This shortly after the announcement of the sale of scratch-off lottery tickets by December 1st. Retailers in South Mississippi have already shown an interest in selling tickets and are in the process of becoming eligible while residents are excited they’ll no longer have to cross state lines to play. Resident Mike Hunter said, “I’m excited because I’ve been playing Powerball for the last 30 years. I’ve had to travel to Slidell, Louisiana and Pearl River, Louisiana. I hope it improves our revenue for the state so they can use that money to help people.”
Drawings for both games will happen twice a week and the first $80 million of net lottery proceeds will go towards state infrastructure needs around the state.
Any proceeds beyond that will be sent to the Education Enhancement Fund, which helps fund pre-K and the Classroom Supply Fund.
