Power companies mobilize to restore power to Moss Point

Mississippi Power and Singing River Electric were on the ground in Jackson County shortly after the storm blew through the area Monday, working to restore power to their customers.

Amanda Parker with Singing River Electric said Tuesday morning that the 700 or so customers affected by the storm were restored to power by this morning.

“The outages were not high, considering the weather, so we were able to handle everything with the normal staff,” Parker said.

She said a tree fell on a three-phase line, which takes a little more time to repair, and there were wires on the ground in Pascagoula, but the crews worked on those immediately and were able to restore power.

Mississippi Power had more than 5,000 customers without power after the tornado hit Moss Point., They had reduced that to 1,000 customers by nightfall and that number was down to 700 this morning.

Crews worked throughout the evening  trimming trees, clearing debris and setting new poles to restore power.

Kaila Moran with Mississippi Power said 250 additional employees were sent to Jackson County. There were 75 utility poles that have to be replaced — including 12 along Main Street — before power can be restored.
