Possible teacher pay increase
It is day two of the state legislative session and one of the hot topics is sure to be a possible pay raise for Mississippi teachers.
Mississippi Governor Phil Bryant and Lt. Governor Tate Reeves said before the 2019 session began they will support teacher pay raises this session.
Brianna Barrows is a first grade teacher at Thomas L. Reeves Elementary School in Long Beach. She tells News 25 a pay raise would help all state teachers and students. “You don’t go into teaching for the money. You do it for the kids, but it would just be a ‘thank you, we appreciate what you do’ and it would really allow me to fund the classroom and give my students here what I know they need and deserve.”
Barrows has been teaching now for four years.
