Possible Drunk Driver Causes Pileup in Gulfport

A possible drunk driver causes a four car pileup on Highway 49.
According to Gulfport police, the initial crash happened on the northbound side of 49 at Irby Road and the impact of the collisions caused two of those cars to spew onto the southbound lanes of Highway 49. Involved in the crash were two cars, a small pickup truck and an 18-wheeler.
Police tell News 25 the driver who caused the initial crash is being investigated for driving under the influence.
Witnesses on the scene tell News 25 when they ran up to his truck before police came to try and help him, they saw beer containers in his car. One witness said, “This silver truck here was headed northbound and hit the back of a smaller car. The smaller car hit the back of an 18-wheeler. He came across traffic and hit this car head on. I was screaming to the top of my lungs in my work place. Everybody was on the phone with the police so I just prayed for everyone in the wreck.”
