Port of Gulfport awarded $11M federal grant for infrastructure upgrades

GULFPORT, Miss. (WXXV)- The Port of Gulfport is receiving more than $11 million in federal DOT grant money to upgrade infrastructure on site.

The money comes from the 2025 Port Infrastructure Development Program and will support a $24 and a half million project aimed at boosting cargo capacity and strengthening the port’s role in national defense.

Plans include rail upgrades at terminal five, a new rail connection between the east and west piers, and eight areas of concrete paving at terminal four.

Members of Mississippi’s congressional delegation are reacting positively to this news as well.

Senator Roger Wicker says these improvements will strengthen the port’s role in maritime innovation and national security.

Congressman Mike Ezell also added that these upgrades will have a long-term benefit to the Coast economy and communities through the jobs it will sustain.
