Port City FC honors Cayce Seal
Cayce Seal was a part of St. Stanislaus’s 4A State Championship soccer team as a junior in 2010 before graduating class of 2011 and heading off to PRCC where he served as the team captain as both a freshman and sophomore.
Fast forward to 2016, Cayce found his way back onto the pitch as a charter member of the Biloxi FC. It took an all-in approach from players like Cayce to get the organization off the ground and five years later, the now Port City FC Sounders are nationally recognized as a part of the National Premiere Soccer League.
Needless to say, a lot of familiar faces in the crowd on this emotional night as his former team dedicated its derby match against Southern States SC to Cayce Seal and what it means to Live Like Cayce.
The scene prior to kickoff included his parents, family, friends, former teammates, all gathered together on the sidelines of Gulfport’s Herbert Wilson Recreation Center for a pre-game ceremony and a group picture.
Port City players all wearing his lineman strong 36 for the last time as the club retires his former jersey for good.
His father, Doug, even gave the pre-game speech and was kind enough to take some time with News 25’s Jeff Haeger to reflect on his son’s life-long relationship with the game of soccer and how that passion for the game will live on through his forever legacy on the pitch. “That was just amazing to see our child flourish like that in a game he loved. I mean he would get off work, come practice. I mean he’d come home nine, ten o’clock at night, just beat, couldn’t walk because he had worked on the field so hard, and he lived life like that. He left it on the field. Everything that needed to be done, he did. He did it to the maximum and he loved life and it’s hard that our son is gone, but his legacy and memory will live on forever. We will flourish, and we will start a fund to help under-served soccer athletes. Through Cayce’s legacy, we’re going to help that not be a reason for someone’s kid not to play, so his legacy will live on. Live Like Cayce – LLC – will be his legacy, and we’re very proud, and we’ll of course miss him every day, but we’re just so blessed with this honor for them reaching out to us. Soccer is a family.”
Port City won tonight’s game 2-1. Pearl River Community College is also retiring Cayce’s number 36.
