Popp’s Ferry Road Construction Sees Lane Shifts
Motorists traveling through Popp’s Ferry Road where road widening is underway began seeing lane shifts today, signaling a major milestone in progress.
The travel lanes are making the shift from the two inner lanes to the two outermost lanes as the center gets torn up to make way for a new 16 foot median, dividing east and westbound traffic.
No detours are planned, but traffic cones and barrels will mark shifts of travel lanes taking place from Cedar Lake Road to Lamey Street.
The $6.5 million project is funded mainly with MDOT funds administered through the Gulf Regional Planning Commission. City of Biloxi Public Affairs Manager Vincent Creel said, “It’s going to look similar to what Caillavet Street looks like. You’re going to have two lanes of traffic in each direction. You’re going to have a median in the middle that’s going to separate the traffic. There’s going to be sidewalks, a five foot sidewalk on one side of the roadway and a ten foot sidewalk on the other. We’re just asking motorists to use caution this week as we’re making the lane shifts.”
The city expects the project to wrap ahead of its September deadline, weather permitting.
