Popp’s Ferry Fourth Graders spread holiday cheer

Today, elementary school students took time out of their day to spread cheer to some local seniors.

Today fourth graders from Popp’s Ferry Elementary School took a field trip to spread cheer. Popp’s Ferry Principal Todd Boucher said, “Well our fourth grade students come down to the Pillars of Biloxi, which is a retirement and nursing home, to sing Christmas carols and bring gifts to the residents.”

The students practiced for months to get ready for their performance at the Pillars and most of them could barely contain their excitement on the big day. Fourth grader Abigail Keen said, “But the one thing I have been waiting for this whole week was to come here and sing Christmas carols with my friends and school family.”

The feeling was mutual for many residents who could not wait to hear the students sing Christmas carols. Pillars of Biloxi Activities Coordinator Kyara Davis said, “The residents look forward to this every year, for them to come sing Christmas carols and give out cards and gifts for the residents.”

Residents at the Pillars of Biloxi have been listening to the kids sing Christmas carols every Christmas for the past six years. “A lot of our residents, they don’t see a family at all for the last year and I think that when the kids come they are family to us,” said Davis.

Overall the event was a huge success and the staff at Popp’s Ferry says they can’t wait to come back again next year. “It was just wonderful and amazing time and I am just so happy that everyone who was a fourth grader got to come here and give the joy to the people and give the Christmas joy to the people. It’s just amazing how our school lets us do that.”
