Popp’s Ferry Bridge temporarily closing Friday night
The Popp’s Ferry Bridge will close again Friday night at 10 p.m. to allow contractors to connect the recently installed generator and switch to a landline power source.
Biloxi officials say the bridge will be closed starting at 10 p.m. and is expected to reopen no later than 6 a.m. Saturday morning.
The work is part of a 1.27 million dollar project to install a new generator and underwater cables to power the raising and lowering of the bridge’s span.
Christy Lebatard, the city’s director of engineering, says the bridge accommodates as many 20,000 vehicles on an average day and will close two more times in the future as part of the project.
