Popp’s Ferry Bridge closing at 10 p.m. tonight
Popp’s Ferry Bridge is set to close again tonight at 10 p.m. for some more work.
Contractors will have to connect the recently installed generator to a landline power source. It is all a part of a $1.27 million project to power the raising and lowering of the bridge’s span.
The bridge was also closed on Friday of last week to install the new generator.
Closing the bridge the past couple of weeks for a short period of time allows the contractors to get their work done while allowing drivers to still have access to the bridge during peak hours. Cecilia Dobbs Walton with the City of Biloxi Public Affairs said, “The reason that the bridge is being closed a couple of times is to help alleviate closing the bridge for an extended amount of time. The bridge is heavily traveled. Over 20,000 vehicles travel that bridge every single day.”
Popp’s Ferry Bridge is expected to reopen no later than 6 on Saturday morning.
