Playoff Preview: Poplarville prepares for round three of football playoffs
The 4A Hornets are entering the third round of the playoffs where they will be facing the 6-4 McComb Tigers.
Poplarville sits at 10-2 on the year with two close wins in the first two rounds of the playoffs by a combined two points. This Friday they host the McComb Tigers and Hornets coaches and players know that anything can happen underneath the Friday night lights.
“We are really excited to get to the third round against a great opponent in the McComb Tigers,” head coach Jay Beech said. “Especially since the first and second round were one point victories for us where we have had to execute at a high level and play really hard to come away with one point wins. We are really happy to be here.”
“A week seems like a lot but it’s really not in terms of football,” quarterback Sydney Blackmon said. “You get out here and you only have three full days of practice with pads on and everything. You have a walkthrough on Thursday and then by Friday you are getting after it. It’s a time crunch. You have to get everything that you want to work on, get your gameplan installed, and all that kind of stuff.”
