Police Warn to not Move Barricades

With the excessive rain yesterday, today many roads remain closed.
Harrison County EMA representatives tell News 25 rain fall levels reached over 10 inches in some places. These high rain levels led police and road officials to close down roads for the safety of drivers. News 25 has learned that people are attempting to still use these roads. Some even moving these signs and bypassing them. Gulfport Police Public Information Officer Damon McDaniel tells News 25 this action can only get you into deeper water. “Really, it’s just like running a red light. It’s like disregarding a traffic control device and driving around a barricade. It’s the same thing. What we’re trying to get people to do is it’s for their safety with us having the barricades in place. Leave that barricade there. Try to find an alternate route.”
As the water recedes, city leaders will let residents know when these roads are safe to pass.
