Police presence on Ponderosa Drive

Today residents in a west Gulfport neighborhood shared concerns about their neighborhood as the Gulfport Police Department conducted a search warrant in connection to an ongoing investigation.

The search that raised commotion amongst neighbors happened at a house on Ponderosa Drive at around 3 this afternoon.  Several police cruisers were parked in front of the home that was blocked off by crime scene tape.

The search prompted neighbors to raise questions about the level of safety in their community. Some say they would like to see the police department get more involved in helping patrol their streets. Gulfport resident Tasha Martin said, “We have kids out here that we are trying to protect. They need to start with the guns. They need to stop shooting and the police need to come out more and help us out with this situation.”

Gulfport police says the investigation is ongoing and they are unable to release any additional information at the moment.
