Police on Halloween safety

Most people love a good scare on Halloween, but not when it comes to the safety of the ghosts and goblins running the streets to get candy.

Gulfport Police Department tells News 25 there are many tips and tricks to make sure your little trick-or-treaters stay safe on the spooky night.

Decorate costumes and bags with reflective tape or stickers, choose face paint, and make-up if possible, instead of a mask which can obstruct a child’s vision, have kids carry glow sticks, or flashlights to help them be seen by drivers. Gulfport PD Public Information Officer Sgt. Clayton Fulks said, “We do have a number of extra officers that are going to be in neighborhoods and general patrol and they will be going as needed. If we see crowds forming and things like that, we will have extra units around in those places. Use common sense and check the candy, walk slow, and know your route.”

Police also want to remind the community to always make sure an adult is with a trick-or-treater.
