Police and fire chiefs honored in Biloxi
Breakfast with the Mayor in Biloxi kicked off this morning with a surprise, honoring the police and fire departments for their efforts in last week’s fatal train and bus collision.
The Biloxi Chamber of Commerce presented Police Chief John Miller and Fire Chief Joe Boney with Policeman and Fireman of the First Quarter. Both Chief Miller and Chief Boney had no idea they were going to be awarded during the Breakfast with the Mayor event.
Although both were appreciative, they credited the men and women in their departments for all the hard work and team effort during the tragic collision. Chief Boney said, “They are my greatest asset. A lot of people talk about the technology and equipment and that costs a lot of money, but the men and women are the biggest asset.”
Chief Miller said, “That’s really what this means is that they support the police department and the fire department and that means a lot to us, a lot of communities don’t have that.”
Biloxi Mayor Andrew ‘FoFo’ Gilich also talked about how the city is currently conducting an engineering study on the new Keesler gate plus the goal to bring Cybersecurity to Biloxi and have the product manufactured here which would bring jobs to the Gulf Coast.
