Police Departments Team up to end Chase

Today, police officers from D’Iberville and Biloxi teamed up to end a high speed chase turned foot pursuit.
It was a joint effort from the Biloxi and D’Iberville Police Department to end a pursuit that started on the interstate and ended with suspects fleeing on foot. Twenty-six year-old Shadryck Brown of Arizona and 26-year-old Leo Magee of Gulfport are now in custody. Brown is being charged with felony eluding, simple assault on a police officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon. His bond is set at $250,000. Magee was not charged in relation to the pursuit, but both men had active warrants prior to the incident.
Sergeant O’Neil Adams with the Biloxi Police Department said, “An officer was on I-10 and attempted to stop a vehicle that was traveling eastbound for a careless driving violation, the vehicle failed to yield.”
The driver continued to lead officers on a chase, exiting off the interstate at Cedar Lake Road, ignoring the traffic signals and narrowly avoiding other vehicles before turning onto Popp’s Ferry Road where D’Iberville Police Department joined the pursuit. “Shortly after turning onto Popp’s Ferry Road, a passenger in the vehicle that was being pursued bailed out of the vehicle on foot. Our officers were able to apprehend him right away,” said Captain Marty Griffin with the D’Iberville Police Department.
The vehicle eventually came to a halt and Brown drew a firearm and took aim at police officers, but a K9 unit deployed by Biloxi Police Department allowed officers to apprehend the suspect before any shots were fired, a relief for both police departments involved. “We have a great working relationship, especially with D’Iberville and Gulfport because we work with them quiet regularly and they were there within a couple of minutes,” said Sgt. Adams.
“This is a time in today’s world that it’s dangerous for law enforcement officers and to have that kind of camaraderie when someone calls for help, we’re coming,” said Captain Griffin.
