Planning Commission Approves Zone Change for Gulf Coast Rescue Mission to Rebuild

The Biloxi Planning Commission approved a zoning change that will allow the Gulf Coast Rescue Mission to rebuild.
Today, reverend and executive director of the mission, Tom Mims asked the planning commission to allow a zoning change on his property from residential to business. The commission approved the change unanimously.
The Gulf Coast Rescue Mission houses men looking to rebuild their lives after addiction and homelessness. The mission burned down in September. Authorities say the cause was a cigarette butt.
Ever since, Reverend Mims has been itching to get the place back up and running for those less fortunate in our community. He says today was a huge victory. “It’s been hard, but we’re still doing everything that we did before just on a smaller scale. We’re so excited about getting this done, getting our kitchen done so we can cook a little bit better.”
The Biloxi City Council will now have to approve the zoning change at their next meeting. Reverend Mims tells News 25 he sees the council approving it as well and he hopes to begin rebuilding as soon as it is approved.
