Plane makes crash landing on field in Ocean Springs
A small plane crash happened in Ocean Springs this morning.
Cleanup crews are on scene working to remove any fuel that is still onboard or may have leaked out.
Around 7:40 this morning, the plane landed on a practice field at Ocean Springs Middle School, just across the street from the Ocean Springs Airport.
According to Ocean Springs School District Spokesperson Trey Brennan, the plane had some sort of mechanical difficulty moments after taking off and had to immediately land on the field.
The pilot was not injured and he was the only one onboard.
There was some damage to a fence surrounding the field.
Brennan said, “Currently we have E3 environmental, which I believe the state contracts to clean up stuff like this. They’re waiting to hear back from the FAA because the FAA may need to do an investigation. If that’s the case, they can’t do anything until they’re out here to investigate.”
Ocean Springs police are investigating the incident.
