Plan approved for Gulf Coast Restoration Projects
Governor Tate Reeves announced that the Restore Council approved a plan today that includes two restoration projects for Mississippi.
The Restore Council voted to approve a funded priorities list that includes multiple restoration efforts across the Gulf Coast. The two projects will be managed by the Mississippi Department of Environmental Quality and includes:
- $34.6 million in funding to restore and conserve habitat including marsh, beach and dunes as well as the construction of habitat in the three coastal counties among other conservation activities.
- Another $34.25 million will be distributed for a water quality improvement program for coastal Mississippi to improve septic to sewer conversion, implementation of new stormwater and wastewater systems, and upgrading existing systems.
