Placeholder Bills Pass Senate Committee
It could be weeks before Mississippians see any concrete proposals from state lawmakers on a new school funding formula, but legislators are coming out to say they will not require any districts to contribute additional property taxes.
Private firm Ed-Build had recommended 120 million dollars’ worth of increased local property tax, but lawmakers say they are not interested in putting that burden on certain districts.
While no education funding formula specific bill passed committee Tuesday, The Senate Education and House Appropriations Committees advanced placeholder bills, with plans to be added later.
