Piggly Wiggly gas leak in Moss Point

A gas leak led to an immediate evacuation at a grocery store in Moss Point today.
Employees and shoppers cleared the Piggly Wiggly on Highway 613 after reports of a strong smell of gas. One person was transported to the hospital for breathing problems and some shoppers said the strong smell made them sick.
Fire crews shut off the gas connection to the building and gave the all-clear for re-entry several hours later. Piggly Wiggly shopper Wayne Algood said, “We went to Lowe’s to get some stuff and then we stopped by to get some groceries to take home with us and everything looked good inside the store.”
A company will soon inspect the store. In the mean time, the deli kitchen is out of service.
