Pickleball courts added under I-110 bridge
A pickleball court has just opened in Biloxi under the I-110 bridge, but it’s not the only recreational activity coming to the area.
Where Howard Avenue meets Hopkins Boulevard comes “HowHop”, an area that will soon host a load of recreational activities like basketball, kayaking, and skateboarding.
Pickleball is the first activity to be added, disc golf is next, and then lighting will be added to the entire area under I-110.
The nets can easily be moved to allow the space to still be used for parking, and other recreational areas are still in the works.
There are lots of perks to playing sports under a bridge.
“It’s in the shade. There are not a lot of places you can come play pickleball that’s not out in the sun. You can play when it’s raining,” said Kay Miller, executive director of Biloxi Main Street. Biloxi Main Street is spearheading the project. “So, it’s just a great space to utilize for activities, and the more activities you have, the safer it is.”
Biloxi Main Street is creating each area as funding becomes available.
