Picayune Police Department getting a new station
The Picayune Police Department is getting a new station.
The current station was built in 1978 and is shared with the Picayune courts. The new police department and courthouse will be on Highland Parkway and Wildwood Drive.
Once the police and courts are moved, the current station will need to be torn down because of asbestos in the flooring and mold issues. We are told there are also issues with ceiling leaks.
Because of the building’s issues, Picayune hasn’t had its entire department under the same roof in a long time. Assistant Chief James Bolton said, “It’s going to be a state-of-the-art facility, and it’s going to have room for growth which is what we needed. By the time they built this building in 1978, they had to go in and knock down walls just to make offices in order to, it was too small when they built it.”
There will be a groundbreaking ceremony at 10 a.m. May 3rd at the new site.
