Picayune Maroon Tide rolls to second round of 6A playoffs with 55-7 win over George County

PICAYUNE, Miss. (WXXV) — Picayune is heading back to the second round of the MHSAA Class 6A playoffs, as the Maroon Tide rolled to a first round victory over George County by a score of 55-7.

The Tide struck first with a touchdown run by Xavier Dennis, then recovered an onside back to immediately regain possession. Dennis scored his second touchdown of the first quarter on a 56-yard run.

The Rebels scored their lone touchdown of the night on a gutsy pass from Wyatt Spidahl to Grant Reeves in the first quarter.

Picayune would strike again with another touchdown run by Dennis, then added its fourth score of the night thanks to a 58-yard rushing touchdown by Jamari Hathorne.

Up next, the Maroon Tide will host the Hancock Hawks in the second round of the playoff. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. on Friday, November 21st.

George County ends its season with a 3-8 record.
