PGSD set to roll out weapons detection systems at high schools
PASCAGOULA, Miss. (WXXV) — The Pascagoula-Gautier School District is getting ready to roll out weapons detection systems at both high schools next semester.
Students at Pascagoula and Gautier High will soon be required to pass through these weapons detection devices when entering school each morning.
Though this is new for everyday use, the district has already utilized the devices at sporting events over the past year. Officials say the decision to incorporate them into everyday school operations is intended to provide an added layer of safety and protection.
The process is simple — students will enter through the front doors, pass through the detection towers, and if the light turns red, they will be searched. The devices are specifically designed to help identify items shaped like weapons, but Chief says that more than anything, this is meant to be a deterrent.
