‘Pets are Cool for Back to School’ promotion
The Humane Society of South Mississippi wants to help you start the school year off on the right foot or the right ‘paw.’
This Saturday, the shelter is waiving adoption fees for all cats and dogs over 30 pounds. This is a part of their ‘Pets are Cool for Back to School’ promotion.
Each year, when families are preparing for the school year, adoption numbers plummet. The Humane Society says school goes into session during one of their highest months of intake, leaving the shelter bursting at the seams with animals who need loving homes.
HSSM Community Outreach Manager Valerie Kattz said, “Since kids are going to school, they are learning and we want to teach them responsibility and there is not many better ways than getting a pet that is going to teach your child how to care for a living being. They will get to walk their new dog, feed their new cat, clean out those litter boxes. It definitely teaches them a lot of responsibility and compassion and caring.”
If you are not ready for the commitment of adoption, the shelter is always looking for fosters.
