Petie’s Eats Downtown Café opens in Gulfport
Today, the City of Gulfport welcomed Petie’s Eats Downtown Café with open arms and big appetites with its grand opening.
Homegrown franchise Petie’s Eats Downtown Café opened its third restaurant on the Coast, satisfying customers with their delicious cuisine. “I named it after my mother. She taught me how to cook. The name ‘Petie’ was her nickname. That’s where it started.”
Since the previous two restaurants were so successful on 25th and 30th Avenue, co-owner Rick Scarborough tells News 25 it was time to bring Petie’s downtown. “With walking traffic down here, we could do extremely well. With our name recognition, it brought us right here.”
The restaurant serves breakfast and lunch and has selections like salads and gumbo. Today’s special is smothered pork chops over rice with mixed veggies. “On Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays, we do shrimp gumbo. We have sandwiches and salads. Our biggest sellers are our daily specials.”
Gulfport Mayor Billy Hewes is a big fan of Petie’s and highly recommends the mushroom swiss burger. He tells News 25 the restaurant just adds to the vibrant renaissance of downtown Gulfport. “It’s an indicator of how we are growing. We are investing in our city as a council, as an administration, and the public.”
“It is absolutely amazing. Everyone has been so supportive. We can’t say enough about how much we appreciate it.”
