Pelicans 61-foot game winning buzzer-beater over Oklahoma City
While there are only two teams with records worse than the 9-21 Pelicans and the 8-19 Thunder last night’s matchup in Oklahoma City turned out to be must-see basketball at least for the final seconds of the game.
Under five seconds left in regulation, Pelicans lead 110-107. Shai Alexander thinks he’s going to get fouled so he heaves up the one-legged shot and he makes it anyway, tying the game.
Less than two seconds on the clock, Devonte Graham gets the inbound and banks the 61 foot three at the buzzer for the win 113-110.
Graham’s game-winning, buzzer beater shot is now the longest in the NBA in the last 25 years, surpassing Tyreke Evans’ 50-footer for Memphis in 2010, according to Basketball Reference.
Here’s what Graham had to say after the game about the wild moment. “I actually got a text from one of my buddies. He was like ‘you’ve been practicing that shot your whole life.’ You just– you know– in the gym playing around. When I was at Kansas, I would just shoot half-court shots every game, every practice. You know, trick shots and stuff like that, but for me it was just playing around. You never know you might get into that situation one day just like today. (Devonte’, did you call bank on that one or no?”)”Yeah I called bank on that one, man! You know, today’s the 15th. We got paid today, so take it to the bank.”
Next the Pelicans host the defending champs, the Bucks, Friday night. Tip is set for 7.
