Pedestrian struck, killed by train in Biloxi late Wednesday morning
BILOXI, Miss. (WXXV) — A pedestrian was killed while crossing train tracks in Biloxi late Wednesday morning.
Police say a man was walking across the tracks on foot near the intersection of Eisenhower Drive just before 11 a.m. when the train fatally struck him.
The man is described as a white male in his 50s, but his identity has not been released.
The train came to an emergency stop shortly after the incident, prompting closures of railroad intersections at Eisenhower Drive and Debuys Road.
After first responders cleared the scene, CSX was able to get the train rolling again shortly after 1 o’clock.
Authorities warn that pedestrians should never cross tracks when a there is an oncoming train. Police recommend that pedestrians needing to cross train tracks do so at the regular railroad crossings where vehicle drivers and train operators have better visibility.
The Biloxi Police Department and CSX are continuing to investigate the incident.
