Pedestrian killed by vehicle on Highway 49

A 52-year-old male pedestrian is dead following an early morning accident in Gulfport.

Police responded to the scene around 5 this morning at Highway 49 and Airport Road where the man was pronounced dead on the scene.

The victim was struck by a Chevy Impala. The driver of the Impala immediately stopped and called for police.

According to police, the man was struck while crossing the highway and entering the path of the oncoming vehicle.

The identity of the deceased is withheld pending family notification.
